Lower Pricing Now Available for Standard Size and Configuration POS Displays; Partners With Datecs
BOULDER, Colo. & NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Rain Technology, creator of the world’s most advanced directional display technologies, announced plans today for the National Retail Federation (NRF ‘25) expo, Jan. 12-14, 2025, in New York City, including:
The point of sale (POS) terminal market has witnessed significant growth over the past few years, especially in the areas of handheld terminals and customer-facing terminals. The market size is estimated at $100.24 billion in 2024 and is expected to reach $151.97 billion by 2029, according to Mordor Intelligence. With this rapid expansion, sensitivity to being visually hacked during transactions is becoming universal, from PIN entry to signature, cart review, and tipping.
“We’ve all been there, checking out at the register and covertly protecting our screen view,” explained Rain Technology CEO Robert Ramsey, Ph.D. “Our scientists, in collaboration with manufacturers and the supply chain, are making it possible for POS displays to only be visible to the intended viewer during shopping cart review, tipping, payment, and pin entry, while peripheral viewers see only promotional logos or marketing messages — a win-win for retailers and customers.”
Availability of Retail POS Display Innovations
Over the last decade, scientists at Rain Technology have made significant strides to improve visual privacy and optical performance of display systems, with over 700 patents filed and more than four million units shipped in laptops to date. Now available for POS systems, the innovation entails a thin proprietary liquid crystal layer built into the display panel that controls the viewing angle of the screen and can be automated to go into privacy mode during desired parts of a checkout or payment process. The static reflective design is compatible with standard LCD, OLED, mini-LED and micro-LED displays.
Licensed to tier one manufacturers and supply chain partners, the display innovation offers significant implications for the entire value chain — consumers, retailers, enterprises and manufacturers — by delivering a privacy mode for consumer transaction security and a share mode for brand promotion, as follows:
Product Availability via Datecs
Rain Technology also announced general availability of POS terminals featuring Switchable Privacy via Datecs, a leading manufacturer, developer and seller of POS solutions. Rain Technology’s POS Switchable Privacy electronically switches the Datecs POS display to a narrow view angle, so customers are reassured that their data is visually protected during a transaction and enables them to complete purchases securely, quickly and confidently. When not in private transaction mode, the screen electronically switches to a wide angle view for promotion.
“Protecting customer privacy is imperative to customer loyalty,” explained Paul Treichler, head of sales and marketing at Rain Technology. “Retailers can foster trust and confidence, improve the customer journey, mitigate the risk of data breaches and identity theft, and support PCI compliance — a winning proposition that promotes a more secure, transparent and mutually beneficial relationship between retailers and their customers.”
Introducing a New Low-Cost Offering for Standard POS Sizes
Rain Technology, in partnership with leading display manufacturers and supply chain partners, also announces the availability of Switchable Privacy POS solutions at lower prices for standard configurations and sizes. “Due to significant price pressure for our partners in POS manufacturing, we have worked over the past months to create low cost Switchable Privacy solutions for the most popular POS display sizes,” said Ramsey. “Bringing the cost adder down to only a few dollars per unit will allow many more brands, retailers and manufacturers to take advantage of this novel innovation in the area of customer information security and privacy which is so critical in retail.”
