Reflective Logo or Messaging Design
Display Screen Branding is a capability of our Switchable Privacy Display technology that enables a branding or messaging opportunity while the display is in Privacy Mode.
Display Screen Branding is a <1.5mm proprietary layer within the Liquid Crystal Module that contains a static reflective design that is shown when this layer is activated. This reflective design is determined during the panel manufacturing process. The layer may be activated by any hardware or software trigger as dictated by the product manufacturer. When activated, the design will be displayed only to those viewing angles determined to be obscured by Privacy mode.
How it works
Privacy Mode obscures the screen from view to less than 2% visibility at a pre-determined peripheral angle and is useful in consumer, retail, financial, and automotive scenarios where the screen is intended to be viewed only by a specific audience. In Privacy Mode, the primary viewer will have full view of the displayed content, while those attempting to view the screen from the left and right sides will only see a metallic background as the light is controlled by Rain Technology’s Switchable Privacy Display capability. With Display Screen Branding, these obscured peripheral angles –for example from 45 to 90 degrees away from the primary viewing angle– now provide a blank canvas separate from the primary display content, on which branding or messaging may be displayed that is visible to those outside of the primary viewing angle.
Applications
Retail Point of Sale and ATM
In a retail point-of-sale or ATM system, Display Screen Branding can show a logo or explanatory text to those outside of the central viewing angle during a transaction. This could be explanatory text such as “Privacy Protected,” a retailer or device manufacturer logo, a URL, or a static advertisement. The logo informs the user that the retailer cares about their privacy, and that their screen privacy is being actively protected.
Automotive
In automotive, Display Screen Branding is utilized in combination with No-driver-distraction™ display technology from Rain Technology to turn the increasing pillar-to-pillar or entertainment display real estate into an opportunity to reinforce the brand in an elegant way that does not cause driver distraction. In this case the logo or badge of the auto brand will be visible to the driver rather than whatever entertainment content is being viewed by the passenger. This capability to share the logo is also possible when the display screen is turned off, if desired.
